Les Adventures d’Asterix et Obelix

Bonsoir mes amis.

I`ll pop in the DVD now and go to the first clip of Asterix and Obelix taking a walk in the forest.

Thanksgiving Dinner Gone Horribly Wrong

Open Letter

Memo To the White House

Plan to save bankrupt airlines:

Replace all female flight attendants with some good-lookin' strippers! What the hell? The attendants have gotten old and haggard-looking. They don't even serve food anymore, so what's the loss? The strippers would double, triple, perhaps quadruple the alcohol consumption and get a "party atmosphere" going in the cabin. And, of course, every heterosexual businessman in this country would start flying again, hoping to see naked women. Muslims would be afraid to get on the planes for fear of seeing naked women. Hijackings would come to a screeching halt and the airline industry would see record revenues. Why the hell didn't Bush think of this? Why do I still have to do everything myself?

Sincerely,

Bill Clinton

15 Little Known Facts About Chuck Norris

1. Chuck Norris' tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.

2. A man once asked Chuck Norris if his real name is "Charles".Chuck Norris did not respond, he simply stared at him until he exploded.

3. Rather than being birthed like a normal child, Chuck Norris instead decided to punch his way out of his mother's womb. Shortly thereafter he grew a beard.

4. Chuck Norris built a time machine and went back in time to stop the JFK assassination. As Oswald shot, Chuck met all three bullets with his beard, deflecting them. JFK's head exploded out of sheer amazement.

5. The original theme song to the Transformers was actually "Chuck Norris--more than meets the eye, Chuck Norris--robot in disguise," and starred Chuck Norris as a Texas Ranger who defended the earth from drug-dealing Decepticons and could turn into a pick-up. This was far too much awesome for a single show, however, so it was divided.

6. Chuck Norris was the fourth Wiseman. He brought baby Jesus the gift of "beard". Jesus wore it proudly to his dying day. The other Wisemen, jealous of Jesus' obvious gift favoritism, used their combined influence to have Chuck omitted from the Bible. Shortly after all three died of roundhouse kick related deaths.

7. Chuck Norris once shot a German plane down with his finger, by yelling, "Bang!"

8. When Chuck Norris plays Oregon Trail his family does not die from cholera or dysentery, but rather roundhouse kicks to the face. He also requires no wagon, since he carries the oxen, axels, and buffalo meat on his back. He always makes it to Oregon before you.

9. Chuck Norris can make a woman climax by simply pointing at her and saying "booya".

10. Before each filming of Walker: Texas Ranger, Chuck Norris is injected with five times the lethal dose of elephant tranquilzer. This is, of course, to limit his strength and mobility, in an attempt to lower the fatality rate of the actors he fights.

11. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.

12. When Chuck Norris's wife burned the turkey one Thanksgiving, Chuck said, "Don't worry about it honey," and went into his backyard. He cameback five minutes later with a live turkey, ate it whole, and when he threw it up a few seconds later it was fully cooked and came with cranberry sauce. When his wife asked him how he had done it, he gave her a roundhouse kick to the face and said, "Never question Chuck Norris."

13. Chuck Norris took my virginity, and he will sure as hell take yours. If you're thinking to yourself, "That's impossible, I already lost my virginity.", then you are dead wrong.

14. Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.

15. Chuck Norris once tried to sue Burger King after they refused to put razor wire in his Whopper Jr., insisting that that actually is "his"way.

Ottawa Spring Craft Sale

James and I are thinking of hitting up The Ottawa Spring Craft Sale at Landsdowne. It's going to be between Thursday April 6th and Sunday April 9th. Not sure which day we'll be going yet but if you're interested in joining us let me know. I think it would be a fun outing.

Better late than never:

Weekend review: March 25-26

Friday night: We had originally planned to go see the Vendetta movie, but that fell through since we were pretty tired. Instead, HP came over and we taught her Mario Baseball, then as usual, the 3 of us played some Mario Party. Of course, you can't have Holly over without getting a new Holly-ism, so here it is:

Holly: You know what movie I really want to see? Catapult.
Ferda & James: Umm, never heard of it, o well.
[time passes...]
James: Holly? Did you mean Capote a second ago?

Saturday: Went and saw Pinar's new appartment. She's got a new roomie too. She seems happy so thats whats important. We took some watermelon over there for the 3 of us to eat. Lately, we've been having a lot of watermelon. After eating and checking out the appartment, we went to Old Navy for some shopping. I got a couple new shirts that were on sale, and for once, Ferda didn't buy anything. HA!

Later that night, Kelley and Lee came over for dinner. It was fun, we chatted, played some Gamecube. They left around midnight since Kelley had to get up early to take a friend to the Canadian Idol tryouts the next morning. The same one Warren happened to be working at.

Sunday: Slept in, watched Corrie Street, then went to Mel's to help her and Mike move into their new house! Was a pretty easy move actually, they didn't have any big stuff, and they had LOTS of helpers which is good. We got home before dinner and veg'd for the rest of the day!

Funny Video of the Week

My favourite part is the amateur sketch. LOL.

Thought provoking question:

What the hell is Omega3?

And why is it advertised on everything that I eat? From my bread to my yogurt, they are both sources of Omega-3 Polyunsaturates...

Review: Harry Potter 4 - Goblet of Fire

We rented it last night from Blockbuster. We both thought it was a great movie. Lots of action, suspense, plot twists. Not your average kids movie. Very dark.

I would recommend for sure!

In The Great Louse Detective, actor Rainier Wolfcastle says that everybody saw his private parts in what film?

A. Nudist Camp Commandment
B. They Call Me Mister Braunschwiger
C. Going Commando
D. Austrian Pie

How to tell things are back to normal?

Easy question...

We played two, 9 inning games of Mario Baseball last night and Ferda whooped me as usual. I swear, she can hit a homer with any of the characters, even scrawny little Toad.

My favourite comment referring to the characters she got when we randomly selected teams:

Ferda: Ahh crap! I got the wing-ed guy AND the non-wing-ed guy!?

She was talking about Goomba and his cousin, flying Goomba.

Laser Update

So the surgery was a success, even though she's still in a lot of pain. We hope that by the next few days, most of the pain will go away. In my understanding, the pain is caused by the epithelium healing. The doctor had scratch it off in order to get at the cornea with the laser, so when it grows back, it's like a scab slow moving in towards the centre of her eye.

Our weekend was spent at home mostly, except for daily trips to the eye doctor to check on healing progress, and an ultimate game on Saturday which we lost. I think it's Ferda's fault we lost, we couldn't win without her talents. It was pretty sad being at home all weekend with all the lights turned off. Felt like we were broke and couldn't afford to pay the hydro bill. We both got kinda cagey and bored too. There really wasn't much we could do... we trying playing some different card/board games, but they don't work well with no lights on. We also tried watching some TV, well, I watched, and Ferda listened while I described what was happening. We did get another hour or two of Lost watched using the descriptive method. Still one more hour to go, I'm itching to see the final episode of season one.

Ferda's supposed to go back to work tomorrow. We'll see how that goes. I hope she can.

Three day weekend

Woohoo!

Tomorrow (Friday) is the day Ferda gets her PRK laser eye surgery done. Therefore we're both off work and resting at home. The doc's say the first day (Friday) won't be bad. But the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th day will get pretty rough for her. I'm sure she'll manage fine though. She's one tough cookie and I'm very proud of her for being so brave.

She goes under the knife/laser around 8:30, so send your good wishes her way. I think I get to watch the procedure, should be interesting. Even though it's rather quick, approx 45 seconds each eye. I think I'll ask the doctor if he can give her mutant powers like Cyclops from the X-Men. That would be SO cool. Except she'd have to wear those special sunglasses all the time to prevent random lasers shooting out and burning me when we kiss. OUCH!

The rest of the weekend will be spent resting, allowing her eyes to heal. And I hope to play some more Mario Baseball. Ferda's got a book on tape from the library so she can listen to that. I've got an ultimate game on Saturday at 2pm that I'll have to leave her side for. And on Sunday I've got to come into work for a few hours to test some new software being installed over the weekend. They want to make sure it's all good to go for Monday so business can return to normal. Also, both Sat and Sun we go for a quick check-up and the laser-eye-place to see how things are doing with her corneas.

We've got about 3-4 more hours to finish of Lost: Season 1, so I guess we'll have to watch that tonight before we go to bed, otherwise I imagine we won't get to see it for a while. Or perhaps I could watch and she could listen. Hmm... wonder if Ferda would go for that.

Latest news

I can't believe I'm doing this. Announcing to all my friends and family, and even the world, that BCS has got a hold of me.

I really tired to fight it. After seeing some of my co-workers affected by it's dramatic grasp and the devastating effects it can have on a person's concentration levels. Yet, after all my efforts, I have failed.

For you see, I am now fully infected with the desire to build bridges:

A couple years ago jamesMo and I downloaded this demo from bridgebuilder-game.com/. The demo is good, gives you a real taste. But its only about 4-5 levels long, leaving you high and dry after about 30 minutes. Then one of our other co-workers managed to get his hands on the full version of Bridge Constructor Set. We're hooked.

Deadlines at work: forget it.
Meetings: I'm late.
When Ferda comes to pick me up after work: she waits an extra 5 minutes.
Arriving at work early to tackle that bridge I've been thinking about all night: you bet.

If you like challenging computer games, I definitely recommend you check out the demo. And if your thirst continues (like mine did), let me know and I'll see what I can do to get you the full thing.

Newest time waster

So last Friday night Duncan and Matt came over for some Mario Party 7 action. Good times were had as usual. Matt won if I remember correctly. We'll have to do it again sometime guys.

Matt brought with him the first two discs of the series Lost. We watched both discs on Saturday after our ultimate game. We're hooked. I borrowed the remainder of the set from HandJ on Monday after work. That night we watched another 4 episodes, and last night we watched 3 episodes.

Soon enough we'll finish the season. Then I suppose we'll have to wait for season two to be released. I guess in the meantime we can go back to watching 24.

At the tail-end of last week, we also bought Mario Superstar Baseball for the Gamecube. It's really fun, but we haven't played for a couple days since Lost has been monopolizing our time. Ferda's really good at the baseball game; she can hit a homerun with almost all of the players. I can only knock it out of the park with Donkey-Kong.

Speaking of Kong: lately I've had a quote from Clone High stuck in my head. It's from when Ghandi smokes raisins and goes on a journey through his subconscious where he meets Geldazar.

Geldazar: "Hello Ghandi. My name is Geldazar, and I am a honkeycorn. Part hummingbird, part unicorn, and part donkey. If you can rescue the princess from the stereotypical Australian dragon, then she shall thrice lay you."

Phone conversation I just had with James...

... & why he's such an insensitive ape sometimes...

So as some of you may or may not know I am having laser eye surgery on Friday morning. EEEK! Well we were supposed to go in for an appointment to have my eye mapped out and to meet with the surgeon on what we thought was Wednedsday. I got a call from Focus Eye Centre asking why we missed our appointment. Apparently it was for today not tomorrow. DOH!

Here's the gist of the phone conversation I had with James shortly after finding out.

---------------------------------
me: so, do you think it's like a bad omen? like I'm not supposed to be going through with this surgery?

J: no, why would you think that?

me: you know, what if this is the last week I have my eyesight? (please note that I am on the verge of tears here)

J: well then you better make the most of it!

---------------------------------

GASP can you believe him? Way to assuage my fears there James!

On another note if anyone is interested I suggest you check out this video report that was run on CJOH on Focus Eye and the surgery itself (that is if you can stomach that sort of thing)

Ok I realize I've been slacking off on posting the Simpsons trivia but now it's baaaaaack!

True or False

In The Strong Arms of the Ma, Marge is traumatized by a mugger wearing a rainbow wig on his head.

James vs Pam

The other day we were making baked potatoes in the oven and I coated the potatoes with some canola oil that comes out of a can, namely: Pam. When I was putting the cap back on the Pam I don't know what the heck I did but the spray tip came off of the can. I tried putting it back together but I wasn't having much luck so, in frustration, I passed the can off to James so he could deal with it. He stood in front of the sink fumbling with that thing for a few minutes. By this time he had squirted all this oil out of the can and the can was all oily and slippery. I looked over his shoulder and suggested he line up the red circle on the spray tip with the red mark on the spout of the can. He gave that a shot but for some reason he figured he'd do it with the spray tip facing towards him. He finally pushed down on the tip and out sprayed the canola oil right into his eyes! I hate to see my baby in pain but this was downright hillarous. He tried rinsing out the stuff but it was of no avail. His eyes were bloodshot and tearing up but he's a good sport and he was laughing too. It was just one of those 'you had to be there' moments. Priceless!

As it stands it's Pam 1, James 0. I'll keep you guys posted on the next standoff but something tells me we won't be using that stuff for some time, well at least not until James gets over the night terrors.

On another note, the baked potatoes were delish!

Simpsons Trivia - March 9, 2006

TRUE OR FALSE
In She of Little Faith, Homer tells Bart They're going to break the surly bonds of gravity with their model rocket and "kiss the angels' feet."

Derrroule le Rebord Pour Gagner!

You all know it's that time of the year again. Madness and mile-long lines at the local Timmies. But have you heard this story?

At a elementary school, two girls were outside during the lunch hour, walking and chatting, as normal pre-teens do. As they walked by a garbage, can one girl (let's call her Girl#1) happened to notice an un-rolled, empty Tim's cup. She fished it out, and started to roll back the rim. However, since her fingers were cold, she asked her friend (Girl#2) for help, the friend did as asked, and revealed the prize: a Toyota Rav4.

So as an act of good faith, the parents of Girl#1 have offered to sell the vehicle and give the parents of Girl#2 five thousand dollars. However, the parents of Girl#2 said no thanks. Why you ask?

They want half of the whole prize. That's right. And apparently they are planning on taking the parents of Girl#1 to court.

All over a piece of garbage. Moral of the story: one man's trash is another man's treasure.

Discoveries

I can't take credit for these, but I still think they are rather interesting. Both are located on blogspot, but neither are your typical blogs.

The first is called PostSecret. The premise is simple: people anonymously share their secrets by sending postcards to this guy in Maryland. Then he scans them and posts them. Quite interesting and provocative.

The second is Ask a Ninja. I'm just starting to look at this one, but I think it works like this: people email the ninja with questions, then he does a video repsonse. Some of the videos are re-done by viewers and are quite funny.

Sports!

Been busy the last while - lots going on. For last week, Weds/Thurs/Fri, I was at a leadership skills course put on by my work. They brought in a consultant to teach about 12 of us how to be a better leader. Some of it was touchy feely, not necessarily my thing. But other parts really hit home. Things I need to do better and improve upon.

Last week was also the first week back to classes since reading week, and that means getting back mid-term exam marks. Things are going great! I'm on track to graduate this spring, just need to finish off some more stats assignments and then write the finals in April - and I'm a free man with a university degree. Booyakasha

Friday night we took it easy, Pinar stopped by and watched tv with us. Didn't do anything that night but sit on the couch and veg. But in my opinion, it was deserved by all.

Saturday was a pretty busy day. Some co-workers and I participated in a hockey tournament at the university. Kevin posted some other pics on this blog post. This pic on the left was taken as we were getting ready. This jersey was clearly too tight for me. We played outdoors, it was great weather for it; a little windy at times but otherwise great. After hockey I met up with my ultimate team and we had a close loss. The game got pretty testy - if you know what I mean. But still always fun for me. I think Ferda even had fun, I know she was proud to get a point. After ultimate I met up with JamesMo to help him move some washers & dryers. Lots of fun. And after that, I finally headed home to get ready for the massive game's night we had that night! On the original evite I think more than 30 replied 'yes'. Luckily, a few cancelled last minute; I don't know how we could have had anymore people in our house! I think the final total number was 24. Many games were played, a few more Hollyism's came up, like: "Alex, you're a chicken wing I would not want to eat." and this is more of a move actually, but it was called "the playful child" if I remember correctly. To all who came, I hope you all had fun! And to Ferda: you made great chili and dessert and were a great host (I didn't do anything...) - thank you!

Sunday was another day of vegging and relaxing. Went for a walk to the grocery store to pick up dinner and a gamecube game: Mario Baseball - very fun.

A Wednesday in the life of Mr. & Mrs. Simpson

We slept through the night which is nice because James usually gets up and flops around like a fish in the middle of the night sometimes and I want to wring his neck.

We both got up around 7:00. James took a shower and I went to the basement to watch some Saved by the Bell on TBS and do some cardio on the elliptical. I haven't worked out at all in ages. I've been sick for quite some time this winter and I didn't really feel up to it before yesterday. I could only do about 10 minutes which I know sucks but I figure I'll be able to ramp it up. I'll do 15 minutes tonight and 20 the next day 25 the next and so on... There was a time in my life where I'd work out for an hour and do 500 crunches daily. I wonder if I'll ever be able to do that again. This was of course when I wasn't working and had the luxury of time on my hands!

I took a shower and got dressed and came downstairs to find that James had prepared bacon-egg and cheese muffin sandwiches. We each had 1.5. Phew! Boy am I ever glad I spent those 10 minutes on the elliptical. HAH!

We then carpooled into work. Well, I went into work and James went to the Southway Inn for a leadership course he's taking through work. He's there today as well. I can't remember if it's on tomorrow as well or not... hmmmm...

Work was ok same old same old. We all attended a webinar during lunch and we feasted on some Gabriel's pizza - only the best pizza in Ottawa! So that was a bonus.

James picked me up from work around 4:30 and we went to Carleton for our French course at 5:30.

Class was pretty good. It's always such a hassle to go after 8 hours of work to a class but once you're there it's fun and somewhat entertaining because we all suck and we all try and speak French and make fools of ourselves. It's great! In all fairness though I've noticed a definite improvement in both my and James' French so I'm pleased that we're actually getting something out of it. Every week someone will do a presentation on a topic related to French culture. So it could be pretty much anything. This week we had presentations on French Cinema, the cemetary in Paris where Jim Morrison's tomb is and Andre Boisclair who leads the Quebec provincial party is young, hot, homosexual and is fond of cocaine... oh did I mention he's hot! James did his presentation on the French national soccer team. I'll be doing mine on Asterix. I think mine is on the 15th. Crap is that next week?!?! Nevermind, I see I have 2 more weeks, phew!

After the presentation in French class we practiced our dialogue. We went through a conversation talking about what our favourite restaurants are. This was such a bad idea as we were both so hungry at this point. After class James convinced me we absolutely had to go to Kanata so we could have ribs at Baton Rouge. In his defence though I didn't put up that much of a fight. So we both had a dinner of ribs and all-dressed baked potato (mmmm sooo good!) at Baton Rouge for dinner at around 9:00 PM. In hindsight this was not such a good idea since it was quite a late dinner and I think was the reason why we both had trouble sleeping last night.

After dinner we came home watched some HGTV and James fell asleep on my lap so I woke him up and we went upstairs, brushed our teeth and went to bed.

So I guess that wraps up our Wednesday. Not super exciting but somewhat eventful.
