Barrhaven's Finest Part III

Quite a theme we have going on here with parts I and II already in the archives - who would have thought there could be some many dumb folks in one little suburban area.

The other night Ferda went down to the local DairyQueen to order the ice cream cake for her bday party coming up this weekend. After she had setup the order for the cake, she said to the pimple-faced teenaged boy behind the counter:
"Hey - could I get your number?"

He paused and stared at her blankly until Ferda added:
"Of the store? DairyQueen? Hello?"

What a stupid little kid. Thinking he was being picked up. Keep dreaming you little nerd.

Movie Review: You, Me, and Dupree

Rented this one Tuesday night. VERY funny. Highly recommended. If you've liked the other movies of this genre, like Wedding Crashers, for example, you will really like this one.

If you've seen the trailers, you know what this movie is about. So I won't ruin anything by saying what happens. But after you watch the movie, I definitely recommend you watch the 'spoof trailer' on the extra features section of the dvd.

Great movie, 9 bestmen out 10.

Happy Birthday Ferda

Some of you may know that today is Ferda's birthday. So I thought I would try and create a nice poem like the one I did for our 1st anniversary a few months ago. However, I bet this one will suck compared to that other one. Oh well, here goes:
Rose are red
Violets are blue
I just want to say
Happy Bithday to you!

Everything Wii

So JamesMo comes into my office just a second ago, and says: "What are you doing tonight? Wanna come over and WiiBox?"

[Wii boxing is part of the Wii Sports package that everyone is talking about. When we played Wii on Saturday with Jmo and Heather, he and I boxed twice and I beat him both times. First fight was a K-O and the second was a decision win. I'm guessing he wants a re-match - and I want to kick his ass again.]

But then JamesMo cuts me off before I can say anything: "Wait. I can't tonight" he says, "I've gotta stay here late and work on my algebra assignment." [OK, that's no joke, 100% truth, but the subject of another blog post]

So JamesMo continues "What about Wednesday? Can you come over tomorrow?"

I finally get to talk and I say: "Dude. That's Ferda's birthday. I can't."

And then JamesMo ends the conversation by saying: "Hello?!! Haven't you ever heard of Bro's before Ho's!??"

How Depressing

After a long absence due to cough and cold, Monday I returned to my workout schedule at the gym. It was pretty tough, and it felt like I really have fallen behind. I hope that with some hard work I can get back to where I was before my cold - within about two weeks. I know that this first week will be pretty tough.

Also, after almost three years of weight training, I feel that I'm sort of coming to a cross-roads: do I want to continue training? Am I still seeing results? Back in the first year, the results were quick and extremely visable. Now, things have definitely slowed down. So I am finding myself asking the question: 'Where do I go from here?'

Maybe the answer lies with a personal trainer. But do I really want to shell out my own cash? Probably not. Or maybe the answer is taking a break for a few months. I could follow the Bob and Doug McKenzie '2-4 Diet': which consists of a two-four of beer and a two-four of doughnuts weekly. Or wait... is that the Homer Simpson diet? Hmmm...

Oh well - enough thinking about workouts, it's time for Heros! Woohoo!

Nintendo Fever

Over the weekend, Ferda has defeated the final castle and last Bowser boss in the new super mario bros game for the DS. Also over the weekend we got to play more Wii since our friends Jmo and Heather bought one. They came over Saturday night, we had dinner, then played Wii til Heather was falling asleep. It sure is fun. We played all the sports games I think... Ferda destroyed us in bowling, Heather won in golf, Jmo and I beat eachother silly in the boxing game. Ferda and I had some pretty heated matchups in the tennis game. She's got a wicked backhand...

Now I'm really confused. Do I really want to get one? Or am I just following the lead of Artoo, Matt and Jmo? It certainly is fun, and I know both Ferda and I would like to play it, but is it worth all those C-notes?

Your thoughts on the new Nintendo Wii?

Have any of you seen those Geico commercials with the caveman with the wooden racket on the airport escalator walkway thingies? What are those things called anyways?
Anywho... here's the song that plays during the commercial and I can't get it out of my head. I thought I'd share. Enjoy!

Oh ya forgot to add... They're called Röyksopp and they're from Norway. The song is called 'Remind Me'.

2nd Gen Gaming

What a weekend in terms of gaming. Two huge releases: Playstation3 and Nintendo Wii.

With the extreme lack of available consoles of the PS3, I doubt I'll be seeing one before this Christmas. However, two of my friends picked up Wii's Sunday morning.

So Benoit invited Ferda and myself over to check the Wii out Sunday afternoon. Very cool. Matt showed up with his and two other controllers so Wii could all play together the various games. Pretty cool. I think the Wii Sports game was the best, it's packaged with the console, so that's good.

Perhaps the Pimpson's will have to keep an eye open for one of these...

Times; they are a changin'

Wednesday night Ferda and I got home nice and early from work and we took that opportunity to go over to the Barrhaven cinemas and watch the Borat movie.

Very hilarious! I would definitly recommend it. But heads because it has a lot of male frontal nudity.

So in honour of the movie, here's Kazakhstan's National Anthem:

Kazakhstan greatest country in the world.
All other countries are run by little girls.
Kazakhstan number one exporter of potassium.
Other countries have inferior potassium.

Kazakhstan home of Tinshein swimming pool.
It’s length thirty meter and width six meter.
Filtration system a marvel to behold.
It remove 80 percent of human solid waste.

Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Norther fence of Jewtown.
Kazakhstan friend of all except Uzbekistan.
They very nosey people with bone in their brain.

Kazakhstan industry best in the world.
We invented toffee and trouser belt.
Kazakhstan’s prostitutes cleanest in the region.
Except of course Turkmenistan’s

Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan you very nice place.
From Plains of Tarashek to Northern fence of Jewtown.
Come grasp the might penis of our leader.
From junction with the testes to tip of its face!

Day Off

So I guess that a lot of the super_ap's readers have the day off today, being that most are gov't employees.

Sucks to be Jenn, Ferda and I.

Love/Hate Relationship

The Pimpson's new computer is still not perfect. But I think we are getting there.

Seems every day my attitude towards it changes: one day I think it's great, the next day it sucks and I hate it.

This morning I did some investigation on thegreenbutton.com, a forum created for all media center users and questions and such. Seems a lot of users were having problems with live TV, and the common solution was rolling back an update from Microsoft. So I did that this morning and also updated the driver for our ati tv tuner. So I'm on the 'love' end of the spectrum this morning because the live tv portion is working again.

Also, something I noticed just this morning which is pretty cool. On the keyboard I found two extra USB ports! I had no idea they were there before. So that makes for nine total on the PC. Five in the back of the case, two up front, and two on the keyboard. Mind you, I don't think we have nine different things that require USB ports.

Not only that, last night I downloaded Windows Live Messenger 8.1 Beta, pretty neat verison of MSN. After the install, we got chatting with Ferda's parents in the UK and got our webcam working with theirs. So it changed from a chat session, to a video call! VERY COOL. I've never done that before. The quality wasn't great, but I suppose that's to be expected considering all that sound and video data is traveling half way across the globe. So we're happy with the logitech webcam we got at BestBuy last week. The next up coming purchase will have to be a printer. Then perhaps a home alarm system to protect all our new purchases... :-)

So things are back to normal at the Pimpson's residence: recording tv, watching it, then deleting it. Which I bet is awful for the hard drive. I'm sure after about a month of doing that, the hard drive will be completely fragmented. Oh well, I guess that's why there's a defrag program, eh?

Peace out.

Pwnage & Friday Time Waster

Today's time waster comes in from Mel. She sent out an email Thursday morning with a link attached for this game called Escapa. I think I've gotten this before from Kevin. Object of the game is to stay alive my moving the red square away from the blue ones and to not hit the walls. Once you hit something - game over.

Apparently if you can do this for more than 20 seconds you are a genius, I die at about 7 or 8...

Anyway, the pwnage all started when Ferda sent this email: please read on...

-----Original Message-----
From: Ferda
Sent: Thursday, November 09, 2006 9:20AM
To: James; Mel
Subject: How long can you last?
---------------------------

75.839 seconds baby!

Then Mel fwd'd that email on to Dave saying:

-----Original Message-----

To: Dave
Subject: How long can you last?
---------------------------

Apparently, Ferda went for 75.839 seconds... that was from an email from Ferda....
I think she bulling... I'm going to call her on it.
My record is 24 seconds.

So then Mel and Dave wrote Ferda and demanded proof:

Ferda,

Dave and I would like to call your bluff.... please send an image of your score!

Melissa

Finally, Ferda wrote us all with this masterpiece:

Nintenditis

Lately, Ferda's really been into the DS, specificly the New Super Mario Bros game. I don't blame her, it's a fantastic game.

But when I said 'really been into' above, maybe I should have said addicted. Due to the extreme portability of the DS, she plays it everywhere: while watching tv, in the car, in bed, even in the, *ahem*, bathroom.

I think there a few cute things about Ferda's latest obsession:
1) She has what I refer to as: 'Mario-jumping-arms'. Everytime she tries to get Mario to jump over a chasm or goomba, she raises her arms up really quick in a jerky fashion hoping it will help. SO FUNNY. I'll try and get a video of this...

2) She gets SO upset when she dies; she stomps her feet, and sometimes her face goes red!

3) And just this morning, she wrote me and said her thumbs were sore. I told her she had Nintenditis.

~

And speaking of video games, while I have your attention, you might as well enter this Rogers Video contest to win either a new PS3 or Wii. Of course, if one of my readers wins, I automatically get the prize. Deal?

More info on Borat

I found out some more info about the Borat movie. Apparently it was only released this week to a small number of theatres due to concerns of the politically correct nature, and due to uncertainty of it doing well.

The reviews and box office results have been great, so next week more theatres and showtimes will be added.

Mondays Suck. KWIM?

Call this post what you want: perhaps a Weekend Review, maybe a Time Waster. Or maybe just a catch-up. Either way I'll spill some beans on a few different topics.

Last Thursday I took the day off work and got caught up on a few different chores. I needed to renew my health card, so that required a trip downtown. Let me just say that it's pretty dumb that the only place in Ottawa where you can renew your health card is downtown at CityHall, and downtown at the Fuller bldg across the street. Why in the world would they decide to have two places to do this, and then put them right beside eachother. Stupidity.

Then I tried to the get the car e-tested, but there was a hole in the exhaust system which needed to be repaired first. So I went to CDN Tire and got them to fix it. At the same time, I got them to replace the front brakes (which were shot) and service the rear (which were almost shot). So as you can guess, I spent most of my day at the CDN Tire on Heron and Bank. Then, once they were done there, I was able to get the e-test done: it passed. Then to the MTO to renew the plates for the car. So it was an expensive day; in terms of money and time. Regardless, all that stuff is done now, and that's good.

Friday: back to work, played catch-up for all the phone calls and emails I missed the day before. Worked my lunch and missed my usual gym routine. It will hurt to get back to the weights today. After work I met up with a tech from Dell who came to our house to look at the computer. Lately, the Simpsons have been having problems with the 'dream computer'. I know. I'm pissed too.

So the problem is an ugly blue screen of death, 'memory parity error'. Dell's solution: new memory chips and a new motherboard. So I helped the tech install the new pieces, and we rebooted the pc: Same.Blue.Screen. Now the tech says the next solution is to format the HD. We weren't too happy with this idea, since we had spent many hours downloading Lost episodes...

We kicked the tech out and headed over to Walmart to get a pack of dvd-r's to copy our programs we wanted to keep before I wiped the harddrive. Four burnt dvds later and I was ready to format C:\ - Things seem to be better now. Haven't seen that blue screen again. So that's an improvement. But media-center is acting up - not recording my shows. At least it didn't last night... we'll see what happens today.

Saturday night brought us to CoBro's appartment for a little poker game which I won. Go.Me. We also played a quick game of slangteasers; hilarity ensued of course. Thanks for sending that game out to us Ma, we really like it. Very funny.

Sunday I continued to work on the pc, while Ferda disappeared to Costco with Holly for a few hours. Then later that night we went with Alex and Holly to see the Borat movie. Bad Idea. It wasn't playing at our local cinema so we had to go to Coliseum instead. Hadn't been there for a bit, and didn't know what to expect. It was PACKED. Never would I have thought a movie theatre would be that busy on a Sunday night. Since when did Sunday nights become the 'movie date night'? Not only that, the whole place was high. I guess the cool thing to do is smoke up and watch Borat. It frickin stunk something awful. We couldn't find seats for Borat, so we exchanged out tickets and got ones for Saw 3 instead.

Two words: GORE. Y.

Overall, it wasn't a very enjoyable experience. I suppose I'm not really a 'crowd' person. Go figure. On the way home from the movie, Ferda and I decided that we are much more comfortable in our own home, on our own couch, watching our own tv.

Friday Time Waster: November 3rd Edition

So, a number of things to say today:

1. Canadian.Tire.Sucks. (this stems from my fun day yesterday, perhaps I'll do a separate post later about this one)

2. Happy Birthday Jordan P!

3. Time Waster from Kevin: Pong

4. Time Waster from me: GI Joe overdubs (I can't get enough of these, and for old time's sake, these are frickin' hilarious. Not only that, I had a porkchop sandwich for lunch!
